Ethos Cellars 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley
This 2022 Ethos Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon is a striking example of Washington State craftsmanship: bold and deeply expressive yet refined and elegant. With concentrated dark‐fruit richness, premium oak integration and firm structure, it stands both as an excellent table wine and a candidate for cellaring.
Origins & Craftsmanship –
Hailing from the vast Columbia Valley AVA in Washington State, this wine is produced by Ethos Cellars, a project rooted in intention and detail. The 2022 vintage was sourced from top sites including the acclaimed sub‐AVAs of Horse Heaven Hills, Red Mountain and Wahluke Slope, plus the veteran Cold Creek Vineyard. The final blend is approximately 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc.
Aged for 22 months in barrel—about 27% new French oak, 61% neutral French oak, 4% new American oak, and 8% neutral American oak—this regimen allows the fruit to shine while oak provides structure and finesse. The alcohol is 14.5% ABV, and the wine reflects meticulous vineyard and cellar work.
Tasting Profile –
-
Nose: Opens with lush aromas of ripe blackberries and black cherries, overlaid by spiced dark chocolate, cedary oak and a hint of graphite.
-
Palate: The entry is rich and layered with cassis, plum reduction and subtle espresso bitterness. Mid‐palate reveals hints of vanilla pod, toasted cigar box, and refined tannins that offer support without dominance.
-
Finish: Long and elegant—black-fruit sweetness gently fades into a chalky minerality, a touch of dried herb, and a whisper of leather. The tannins are plush but present, promising that the wine will benefit with further age.
