Origins & Craftsmanship

The GlenAllachie Distillery sits just outside Aberlour in Speyside, Scotland, originally built in 1967 and revitalized after being acquired in 2017 by Billy Walker, the renowned whisky maker previously behind GlenDronach, BenRiach, and Glenglassaugh. Under Walker’s leadership, the distillery shifted focus from producing blending stock to crafting premium single malts centered on exceptional cask maturation.

The current GlenAllachie 18 Year Old is the oldest expression in the core lineup and is carefully composed from casks selected by Walker from the distillery’s warehouses. The maturation process highlights a balance between American oak sweetness and rich sherry influence:

Initial aging for approximately 15 years in first- and second-fill ex-bourbon barrels
Followed by about 3 years finishing in first-fill Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry puncheons and hogsheads

This extended finishing period deepens the whisky’s dark fruit, chocolate, and nutty characteristics while maintaining the distillery’s signature honeyed Speyside style.
